OUR VISION:

Legally, Louis Riel remains a convicted TRAITOR to Canada. The Friends of Louis Riel Society is a non-partisan society organized to engage Canadians and international friends in creative conversations and actions relating to the recognition of Louis Riel’s proper place in history: Canada’s Métis Father of Confederation

RESOLVED:

We have a long-term goal of reconciliation and the exoneration of Louis Riel.

In light of Canada’s signing of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the historic 96 recommendations of the Residential School Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) the Friends of Louis Riel take this opportunity to open up a new narrative on Louis Riel. Charged and tried by a Canadian colonial court of dubious legal nature Louis Riel was convicted of the crime of High Treason Denied justice and mercy Riel was sentenced to “hang by the neck until dead.” Louis Riel was brutally executed November 16, 1885. We seek justice for Louis Riel through a Parliamentary Bill of Exoneration and recognition of Louis Riel as Canada’s Métis Father of Confederation.
